Hi everyone, Luqman aka Pak Tam back at it with a COMIC!

A practice in short length (5 pages), lighting practice, and darker backgrounds.  A friend of mine helped me with the inking and with scanning.

A lot of this comic is just inspired by me working at a deli for the last couple of years.  Decided to draw it out; it'll be featured in a PSU literature magazine hopefully. Enjoy!

    the new art style seems tough but has really cool perspective

    the bovine is quite realistic!!

    and i like the dark hair white highlights shot from the back, that was interesting

Amin's Kuey Teow Evolution

Char Kuey Teow has been my favorite dish since I can ever remember. When I was little (about 7yrs old) in Malaysia, Ayah used to take me along to his usual meetup with his buddies on some evenings. In Malaysia, one of the culture (pre-COVID) is #mengeteh, or hanging out with friends at an outdoor restaurant/food place after Maghrib until about 9:30 - 10:00 pm. You would eat something along with some sort of tea. For Ayah and his friends, it was always at this Char Kuey Teow parlor in Perlis. The place only opens after Maghrib until probably well after midnight. We typically order Char Kuey Teow Kerang with Teh Halia Tarik. When we moved to the US, neither of these dishes can be found easily. I always have to rely on Mak to make some on rare occasion that we find fresh kucai (Asian chives) and taugeh (bean sprouts) at Pittsburgh. Even so, it never tasted the same. The Bug that Got Amin Home

(Amin's actual White Birch)     Last weekend, as we were driving back from State College, Mak said to me, "Look. White Birch. Amin's tree".  I wasn't sure what I heard, so she repeated the words. I looked to where she was pointing, which was the left side of 422 just before approaching the Nolo Hill.  "Putih tu, senang nampak" ("The trunk is white.  Easy to see").  I strained to see the said tree but I was sure I missed it. Anyway, I realized what she had wanted to say.  The next twenty minutes before reaching 559, I was going back in time, recalling the few days before and after Amin was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois.        It was pretty mild winter that February of 1984.  It was a bit after 5 pm when baby Amin arrived.        I was given a set of scrubs so that I could be part of the cheering squad.       My other mission, as head of the family as was...

Simplify; Peace; Balance

     First week in LA! Bye Ayah T_T! Photo: Random kind stranger (**Note** Sorry this is not so kid-oriented!! I just kept typing and this came out. I will do a bonus post on a Wednesday that is something F&F will enjoy more!! Look forward it 😁) This week marked the completion of a whole six (six!!!!) years here at UCLA as a PhD student (thanks Ayah for the reminder). It’s been a long and interesting ride so far, where I’ve involved myself in more than I ever could have imagined (especially outside of the classroom and lab). I’ve met so many types of people, dived head-first in a myriad of passion projects, and relocated housings more times than I care to relive (I can only imagine Mak and Ayah’s pain having to move so often when we were growing up – except with many many more people than just 1 person).
